Apple today announced financial results for the quarter ended December 31, 2022. While quarterly revenue of USD$117.2 billion is down 5% year over year, they now have more than 2 billion active devices and set an all-time revenue record of USD$20.8 billion in its services business.
While many tech companies are announcing lay-offs, following massive hiring sprees during the pandemic, Apple took a steadier approach and has, so far, avoided mass sackings. Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. said the company generated USD$34B in operating cash flow while continuing to invest in its long-term growth plans.
The jump to 2 billion active devices is impressive with 200 million of those devices coming in just the last 12 months. The 1 billion device mark was crossed in 2016.
For comparison, Google boasts at least 3 billion devices using Android. But given Apple doesn’t have products in the lower price ranges that is dominated by Android, it’s not surprising that Google has a larger installed base.
