Apple has released firmware updates for AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. According to the company the update addresses “Bug fixes and other improvements” and brings the firmware up to version 5E133.
Installing the updates is more or less a passive process. Unlike almost every other Apple device that has a user accessible software update function, Apple’s headphones receive updates when connected to an Apple device whenever Apple feels like pushing the updates out – at least that’s how it seems.
You can check the firmware version number on your AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max by:
- Opening the Settings app on your iPhone and navigating to the “Bluetooth” menu.
- Find your AirPods in the list of devices and tap the “i” next to them.
- Look at the “Firmware Version” number.
The previous firmware versions, that were leased in late 2022 and early 2023 were 5B59 and 5B58.
By the way, Apple’s advice if you can’t update the firmware for some reason is to make an appointment at an Apple Store or with an Apple Authorised Service Provider who’ll be able to update the firmware for you. Which seems like a lot of effort for something Apple could easily automate or make available with an updater app.
