In the lead up to WWDC, Apple has released the last significant updates to its operating systems. iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, watchOS 9.5, and macOS Ventura 13.4 are available using Software Update on all compatible iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, and Macs.
What’s new in iOS 16.5?
iOS 16.5 adds a few nifty features including
- You can now use Siri to initiate screen recording. Just say “Hey Siri, start screen recording.”
- Apple News gets a sports tab so you can see the news for you favourite teams in one place
- New wallpaper for Pride Month
- Fixes for issues with Spotlight, Podcasts in CarPlay and Screen Time
What’s new in watchOS 9.5?
Apple’s release notes say that “watchOS 9.5 includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including a new Pride Celebration watch face to honor the LGBTQ+ community and culture.”
In other words, no major changes.
What’s new in macOS Ventura 13.4?
Ventura gets a few minor feature updates as well, There’s a new Sports feed in the sidebar of Apple News for easier access to stories, scores, standings, and more for the teams and leagues you follow. And it resolves an issue where Auto Unlock with Apple Watch does not log you into your Mac. The Screen Time bug (one that’s been a personal source of frustration) that’s been fixed in iOS 16.5 has also been addressed as a well a fix for a Bluetooth issue where keyboards connect slowly to Mac after restarting.
- Addresses a VoiceOver issue with navigating to landmarks on webpages
- Fixes an issue where Screen Time settings may reset or not sync across all devices
