Apple’s Find My service is incredibly useful. When someone in my home can’t find their phone, I use Find My to make it play a sound. And, of course, there’s the main application that allows a device to be found when lost – as Chance Miller from 9to5 Mac learned. And there’s the somewhat maligned AirTags which can be connected to almost anything from your keys to your pet to track location. With the ability to track almost any device that is connected to your iCloud account, including those of family connected via Family Sharing, Find My is one of the biggest benefits of the Apple ecosystem.
As well as being able to track Apple devices, Find My has been extended to support third-party devices.
Today, Targus announced the release of its Cypress Hero Backpack with Find My Locator. The company says the pack is made from eco-friendly materials and has a built-in location module that allows it to be located from your iPhone, iPad or Mac. While there’s no word on Australian availability, it is available in the US, EU and EMEA for USD$149.99.
If you’re not keen on Apple’s AirTags, Dufy has its own tags, the SmartLink Track (USD$39.98 for two) that perform a similar function. And there’s also the Chipolo ONE Spot (AUD$49 for one).
On the headphone front, Belkin’s SoundForm Immerse (AUD$299.95) have a Find My enabled charging case. If they’re outside your budget, perhaps the SoundForm Freedom (AUD$189.95) might be a better choice.
Finally, just to show it’s now all about the tech gadgets you can carry, Find My support is available on your ride. The VanMoof X5 e-bike can be tracked using Find My. At almost USD$4,000 these are definitely high-end but the build quality is reputedly excellent.
