Over the last few days, Apple has released updates for the current releases of its major operating platforms. While systems updates can be an annoyance to install, they are important as they often fix security issues. And these updates resolve a couple of issues that are being actively exploited by threat actors.
The iOS/iPadOS 16.5.1 and macOS 13.4.1 updates include including security patches to two active exploited security vulnerabilities in their update. The first patch fixes a vulnerability for arbitrary code execution with kernel privileges that allows bad actors to execute commands on a victim’s device. The second patch fixes a WebKit flaw that stops malicious web content from executing arbitrary code
While it’s reasonably easy to install updates manually (open Settings on your device, open General and then choose Software Update), enabling Automatic Updates is a safer option as it ensures the most recent updates are installed and you’re not left vulnerable.
