Apple’s quest to infuse apps with machine learning and Apple Intelligence has made its way to Apple Mail in iOS.  Apple Mail in iOS 18.2 gets a set of smart filters that are designed to help you scan your email more efficiently.

If you don’t like the filters, you can turn them off.

What are the new email filters in iOS 18.2?

The new Apple mail filters are:

  • Primary: This is the new default view. It includes what Apple deems are your most important messages – things like time-sensitive messages, communication between you and friends and family and important business conversations with businesses.
  • Transactions: Messages relating to payments, receipts or deliveries.
  • Updates: These are things like regular newsletters and subscription alerts.
  • Promotions: This is where you’ll find sale offers, promotions, coupons and other salesy messages.
  • All Mail: This is an unfiltered view of your inbox.

If you can’t see All Mail, you may have to swipe to the left to make it visible.

How to hide the new iOS 18.2 inbox filters

You can permanently hide the new email filters by following these steps.

  1. Open Mail
  2. Open your Inbox
  3. Tap on the … button in the top right corner of the screen
  4. Choose the List View option
