While Apple does follow a reliable cadence for the release of some products, it does like to throw a few curve balls in as well. Here’s a month by month look at what we might expect.
January | This is usually a quiet month for Apple. The days of the Macworld Expo and Steve Jobs’ famed “One more thing” are behind us. |
February | I think we’re waiting for a quiet announcement of a new base-level iPad It’s the only device that doesn’t support Apple Intelligence. An early 2025 iPad announcement would not be a surprise. |
March | The Apple TV and HomePod must feel like the neglected middle children of Apple’s family. They’ll get an upgrade but Apple’s invasion of the home will get a huge push with a new hardware device announced – a smart display that will complement the Home app as speculated by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. |
April | Apple’s high-end systems, the Mac Pro and Mac Studio have been waiting a while for an update. We should be due for M4 upgrades, or perhaps even M5, for Apple’s premium desktop computers. The iPhone SE4 (or iPhone 16E according to some rumours) should appear this month, if not before. The Home button will finally disappear with FaceID and the Notch coming to the entry level iPhone. |
May | The calm before the storm. It’s unlikely we’ll hear much in the lead up to WWDC. There will be rumors and perhaps even the odd leak. But Apple will be holding back any major announcements. |
June | The big news from Apple comes from its annual developer conference. At WWDC we can expect to see what Apple has in store for us for all its operating platforms. Apple announced the first M-series Mac Pro at WWDC 2023. If we don’t see a new model earlier int he year, |
July | All eyes will be on new macOS, iOS and iPadOS features as they arrive in the developer and public betas. |
August | It’s unlikely we’ll see anything announced in the month before the iPhone. |
September | It’s iPhone and Apple Watch time. The next iPhone, the 19th or 20th generation depending on you count will be called the iPhone 17 (although if its the 20th generation the could jump to iPhone XX). Availability will be towards the end of the month when we’re likely to see iOS 19. Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 will make their appearance. |
October | The operating systems that were announced back in June during WWDC will start arriving. While public and develop betas will have been available from just after WWDC, public releases will drop early this month. |
November | The iPad Pro M4 was released in May 2024. If there’s to be an update, it will come late in the year. More likely is an update to M3 for the iPad Air. |
December | December is usually a quiet month for Apple. No new products as we get ready for Santa to come down the chimney. |
We can expect 2025 to be a big year for Apple. Almost every device category will see an update and we could get an all new product with a smart home display. Apple’s computers for pros and business users should get a significant processor boost and we’ll see the annual refresh of the Apple Watch and iPhone.
The iPad is in desperate need of a refresh to support Apple Intelligence. And the iPhone and Apple Watch will get their annual refreshes.
