While Exetel might have been first to pull the trigger on cheaper NBN plans for home users the floodgates are about to open. NBNCo has dropped the wholesale price of its 500/50 service to $58.53/month from the current wholesale rate of $73.93. And while that enabled Exetel to offer its $80 monthly offer, Tangerine has come up with an even lower offer.
Tangerine’s Speedy Max 500/50 plan is being offered for $68.90 per month for the first six months before reverting to $88.90. The $20 discount only applies to new customers and includes no lock-in and unlimited data. It’s available to households with FTTP or HFC connections.
None of the big three telcos – Optus, Telstra and Vodafone – are offering similar plans or reduced pricing. But we can expect many of the challenger Retail Service Providers (RSPs) to start offering lower cost and faster plans over the coming weeks.
