Siri on Apple TV will know who you are

Let’s face it. When it comes to software updates that Apple users pay attention to, tvOS is probably the least anticipated or exciting. After all, our Macs, iPads, iPhones and Apple Watches are with us most of the time. But tvOS has picked up a nifty new talent.

As part of the latest tvOS update, Siri will recognise the different voices of each person who has a profile on the Apple TV. Apple says:

Siri on Apple TV features a complete redesign, and will be able to recognize each user’s voice, so they can easily access their movies, shows, music, games, and apps, and pick up where they left off. By using the Siri Remote and asking “What should I watch?” users can get tailored recommendations.

Apple Press Release

This is kind of cool. For parents, it means kids using Siri won’t get recommendations based on an adult’s account if you forget to switch profile. But it’s a sign of how Apple is continuing to refine its software.

I hope this is a sign of things to come as the ability to easily share an iPad between family members would also be a great addition. But I suspect Apple would prefer to sell more iPads than make them easier to share.
