Rumour mill: What can we expect from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro

We’re still about six months away from Apple showing off the next generation of the iPhone but that doesn’t mean the speculation of what we can expect isn’t flying around. Here’s what we can expect, based on leaks and rumours.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will be quite different

Apple has been differentiating its regular and pro models for a while. According to a poster at MacRumors, the iPhone 15 Pro will ditch the regular buttons and shift to capacitive buttons that are touch-sensitive.

Outwardly we can expect different camera arrays, as we see with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 15 Pro should be more repairable

While the iPhone 14 looked a lot like its predecessor, its internal design was significantly different. Apple made a bunch of design tweaks that made the most recently released iPhone much easier to fix. Apple has been responding to the push for improved repairability so we can expect it to continue the trend that started with the iPhone 14 and continued with the HomePod.

A new System on a Chip

The same leak that revealed information about the capacitive buttons says Apple is developing a new version of the A-series processor, the A17 Bionic (if that moniker continues) that will have a lower power mode that will enable the buttons to operate even when the phone is switched off. They add that ” Find My, Bluetooth/UW, and Apple Pay express card features (previously managed by the SoP with low energy), while the phone is off” will work even when the iPhone is powered down or off.

USB-C will come

This is perhaps the most obvious change we can expect. Changes in laws in the European Union have made USB-C all but mandatory for Apple. While the new laws don’t come into effect till 2024, Apple will need to make the move with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro this year in order to sell new iPhones next year.

The iPhone 15 Pro will be made of titanium and perhaps renamed

Apple has long had a focus on using the best materials for its hardware. When the Apple Watch Ultra was released, one of the features that differentiated it from the rest of the Apple Watch range was the use titanium for its casing.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has some excellent sources, says the iPhone 15 Pro (which could be renamed the iPhone 15 Ultra) will ditch stainless steel and be made from titanium.

Welcome to Dynamic Island

The Dynamic Island, that small, pill-shaped region at the top of the display that dynamically resizes, will be part of all four iPhone 15 models with two 6.1-inch models and a pair of 6.7-inch models.

    incredibly good news for
    Mac and iPhone
    Users. Can’t wait to
Get my hands on the titanium model.

September can’t come soon enough. Hopefully, the
user interface gets a much needed
    clean-up.
    keeping the dynamic island is
    such a good idea.
