The iPhone 14 Pro is killing the competition

It’s fair to say many people felt that the iPhone 14 Pro was only a modest upgrade on the previous generation. And while the iPhone 14 had a lot of under the covers improvements, there wasn’t really all that much to crow about as the iPhone is in an evolution, not revolution phase. That said, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max seem to have a strong edge over their competition – even the newly released Google Pixel 7.

Faster cellular data performance

Ookla, the company that we all go to when we want to do an internet speed test, has put the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max through their paces and found they are significantly faster than the iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung S22+ and Samsung S22+ Ultra.

The speed boost between the iPhone 14 and last year’s model was a startling 38% according to SpeedSmart’s testing. The tests were conducted on networks in the USA operated by Verizon and T-Mobile. Those results have been matched by Ookla, suggesting they aren’t just one-off anomalies from a single test.

Battery life smackdown

Battery tests conducted by PhoneArena revealed that even though the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max don’t have the largest batteries on the market, Apple’s homegrown System on a Chip (SOC), is amazingly efficient. You can watch the full testing video. But, in summary, the two new flagshp iPhones offered better battery life in almost every test when compared the Google Pixel 7, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro.

  • ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max: 19 hours and 5 minutes
  • ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌: 16 hours and 18 minutes
  • Pixel 7 Pro: 14 hours and 19 minutes
  • Pixel 7: 13 hours and 56 minutes
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra: 13 hours and 17 minutes
  • Pixel 6 Pro: 13 hours and 13 minutes

Summary of results for looped video with screens at 100% brightness simulation

  • ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max: 11 hours and 0 minutes
  • Pixel 7 Pro: 9 hours and 39 minutes
  • ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌: 9 hours and 14 minutes
  • Pixel 7: 9 hours and 13 minutes
  • Pixel 6 Pro: 9 hours and 10 minutes
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra: 7 hours and 27 minutes

It’s worth noting that the Google Pixel 7, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro all have larger batteries than the iPhone 14 Pro Max and that the iPhone 14 Pro has the smallest battery in that field by over 1000mAh.
