Patently Apple has identified a new patent that suggests that Apple is looking into integrating a display in the front of the AirPod case. As is the case with patents, Apple protecting this piece of intellectual property doesn’t mean it will actually come to a product any time soon. But if this comes to pass, it continues Apple’s trend of making its products more tightly integrated.

With the iPod finally being killed off from Apples product lineup, this patent looks like a hybrid between an AirPod case and the iPod nano. According to the patent, the touch display will enable users to invoke Siri, control music playback and toggle between Transparency, Noise Cancellation and no noise management.
The type of screen tech such a device would use is anyone’s guess but the work Apple has done on the Apple Watch display shows that it is capable of creating a great user experience with limited real estate.
