macOS 26 Tahoe has deprecated support for FireWire. While FireWire accessories haven’t been on the alert for many years, there are still some people using older drives and other peripherals.
A poster on X has found that FireWire support, through adaptors that connect to the USB=C ports on modern Macs, no longer works.
It’s important to remember that early beta versions of operating systems are seldom feature complete so support might come back. But Apple has never been scared to move on from legacy technologies. It has often been the first to move to new standards such as USB, DisplayPort and others. And, while doing so, dumping support for what it considered legacy connectors and standards.
For now, if you do rely on FireWire peripherals and plan to upgrade your Mac to macOS 26 Tahoe you might need to consider replacing those older FireWire peripherals.
