As you might have noticed from my recent review of MacWhisper, I was very impressed by its performance. Since that review, I’ve used it to transcribe a long YouTube video as well as many other video and audio files I’ve generated. Now, MacWhisper is getting a speed boost by using a newly released transcription model from Nvidia.
Nvidia has released a new transcription model called Parakeet which MacWhisper’s developers say ranks very high on accuracy and is incredibly fast on the latest Macs. Jordi, MacWhisper’s developer says it can transcribe and diarise a 30 minute podcast in under 8 seconds.
In my own test, I transcribed a 52:04 minute video from YouTube (my own content) in about 8 seconds. That is super fast.
Only the English model is currently supported. The product currently supports WhisperKit which is built on OpenAI’s Whisper model.

MacWhisper will also be getting a redesign in the next major release. MacWhisper 13.0 will include a full history view, faster performance, and more room for new features.
