DexCom has announced that the Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System now syncs directly with Apple Watch, making it easier for people to monitor their glucose levels.
According to Diabetes Australia, almost 2 million Australians have diabetes. That’s about one in every 12 or 13 people with about 300 new cases reported daily. And that makes monitoring and managing blood glucose levels an essential part of Australia’s healthcare system.
The Dexcom G7 is an all-in-one wearable device that sends real-time glucose readings automatically to a compatible smart device. The Apple Watch integration enables users to receive alerts and check glucose levels in real-time without the need to carry a smartphone or receiver.
With the potential complications of diabetes potentially resulting in blindness, heart disease or amputations, getting on top of this disease and managing has significant benefits to our society and to every person living with diabetes.
New technologies like the Dexcom G7 have simplified glucose monitoring substantially. When my dad was first diagnosed with diabetes, glucose monitoring took several minutes and required annoying pin pricks with a small lancet. Measurement devices have become easier to use but the advent of monitoring tools like the Dexcom G7 have done away with the need for pin pricks and specialised GCM devices.
The integration with Apple Watch is a further step forward.
