Apple Watch Series 11 holds back features in Australia

The Apple Watch Series 11 continues to build on the foundations laid in previous generations. The big new feature is notification of potential hypertension (high blood pressure) but it’s unclear when that feature will be activated in Australia. Battery life and scratch resistance get a boost.

The two new features Apple notes in its US media release, hypertension monitoring and 5G support are missing from the spec sheet in the Australian models. Apple’s US website notes support for 5G and LTE cellular communications while the Australian site only mentions 4G. And hypertension monitoring is missing as well. Presumably that will come if Apple gets the appropriate approvals from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

History suggests we might be waiting up to a year for that given how long it took Apple’s Apple Watch ECG function and AirPod hearing aid support to come to Australian users.

Apple Watch Series 11 offers up to 24 hours of battery life and supports fast charging with just 15 minutes providing up to eight hours of battery life.

The cover glass of aluminium models of Apple Watch Series 11 is made from an Ion-X (ion-exchanged strengthened) glass that offers 2x more scratch resistance. The display is treated with a breakthrough Apple-designed ceramic coating that bonds to the glass at an atomic level through a physical vapour deposition process, significantly hardening the surface. Titanium models will continue to have a sapphire front crystal.

Screen sizes remain at 42mm and 46mm.

On the upside, Apple’s improved Sleep Score tracking is available to help people better understand how to achieve better rest. Apple Watch will  track several factors, such as duration, bedtime consistency, how often a person wakes up, and how much time is spent in each sleep stage to provide an overall score and classification in the Sleep app on Apple Watch. This will provide a clear breakdown of the most critical components so users know what to prioritise to improve their sleep.

With watchOS 26, Apple Watch Series 11 features Workout Buddy, a  fitness experience powered by Apple Intelligence that analyses workout data and fitness history to deliver personalised, spoken motivation throughout their session based on data like heart rate, pace, distance, Activity rings, personal fitness milestones, and more. Workout Buddy will be available starting in English across some of the most popular workout types, and is available on Apple Watch with Bluetooth headphones, with an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone nearby
