If you’ve pre-ordered an iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro, or intend to buy one, be prepared to jump straight into Software Update. iOS 26.0.1 is already out.
A camera bug has that is unlikely to impact most users has been identified. An Apple spokesperson told MacObserver that the issue occurs in “very rare cases when an LED light display is extremely bright and shining directly into the camera.”
Early updates like iOS 26.0.1 are not unusual, particularly in new hardware like the iPhone 17. They often cover unusual or minor issues that Apple lets out in the major release. Rather than delay the release over a minor issue, a fix is issued.
This may seem like a good reason to hold back on jumping to the newest software on release day. Apple’s long developer and public beta processes mean that many of the wrinkles are ironed out before the offical release.
But, if you still remain cautious, iOS 26.1 is expected by late October 2026.
watchOS 26.0.1 has also been released. This will be of little consequence for Australians as it enables satellite communications for Apple Watch Ultra 3 in Mexico.
