Apple PC shipments continue to grow strongly, outpacing most of the market. While Lenovo and HP Inc lead the PC market overall, Apple’s strong growth flies in the face of the rest of the market which is reaping the benefits from the pending end of support for Windows 10, which is coming on 14 October 2024.
The IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker shows that Apple’s PC shipments increased by 13.7% over the same quarter last year. Apple is out pacing the rest of the market which grew at 9.4%. Dell Technologies was the biggest loser for the quarter with less than 3% growth.

“While the entire market is continuing on a very strong year, fueled by Windows 11 transition and the need to replace an ageing installed base, the results by regions are telling different stories. In particular, the North American market continues to be impacted by the US import tariffs shock and by macroeconomic uncertainties. While existent, the demand for newer PCs ready for Windows 11 is likely to push well into 2026.”
Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice-president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.
Apple has not released many new PC products recently. Apple last updated the MacBook Air and Mac Studio in March 2025. The MacBook Pro is almost a year old, as is the Mac mini. So, Apple’s sales have stayed strong despite the flood of new machines from the other four vendors in IDC’s top five.
It’s anticipated that Apple will be releasing its first M5-powered devices soon.
With Apple poised to debut the M5 chip soon, it’s in prime position to further increase its market position. While Windows does dominate the desktop market according to Statcounter (see chart below), Apple continues to hold steady. Interestingly, Statcounter’s data sees “unknown” rising.
