Australia’s 000 emergency phone service has been in the news over recent months. It was found that a large number of Samsung phones were not able to call emergency services in some situations. The issue mainly impacted Samsung but the iPhone 12 also had problems calling 000. The iOS 26.2 update that was issued in December 2025 resolves that issue.
Apple has published a support document outlining the issue, which:
… impacted some Australians in regional areas who attempted to make an emergency call when their primary mobile network was unavailable, even though an alternate network was available and should have connected the call
If you have an iPhone 12, please ensure that it is running the most recent version of iOS so it can reliably call 000.
Older phones, such as the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 are not believed to have the same issue. And iPhone 13 or newer models are also believed to be OK.
