With Apple’s developer and public beta programs well advanced, Apple has announced an event for 10 September 2025 at 5:00AM. At that event, we can expect Apple to announce availability of new versions of all its operating systems as well as the new iPhone models.
With Developer Beta 8 and Public Beta 5 now released, the new versions of macOS, iPadOS and iOS are close to ready. In the past, Apple released several betas before releasing what it called Release Candidates and then Gild Master versions to developers before the official public release. But it seems that process, or at least the nomenclature given to beta versions, has been changed.
Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones at the event on September 10. Those are expected to be
- iPhone 17
- iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max
- iPhone 17 Air
With Apple’s announcement coming on a Wednesday, we can expect pre-orders to open later that day with in-store availability to commence either from 12 or 19 September 2025.
The anticipated iPhone 17e is likely to come early next year. The iPhone 16e was released in February so a 12-month wait between updates seems reasonable.
Typically, when Apple releases a new iPhone, the current model stays on the market for another year or so at a reduced price. If you’re looking to replace your current iPhone, it’s probably worth waiting until the new models are released and then deciding whether a slightly older model is better value.
You can watch the event live at Apple Events, YouTube Live or on Apple TV.

Great coverage! One thing I’m really curious about, though – did Apple confirm when iPhone 17 pre-orders will actually go live and what the starting price might be? That’s something fans (including me!) are waiting to know.

In short – no. But Apple typically opens pre-orders on the Friday after the announcement of new iPhones and availability a week after that. Pricing will be interesting as the impact of tariffs in some markets needs to factored in. And global economic instability means Apple’s hedging position on foreign exchange might shift. There’s no official word on prices but an increase seems likely to me.
